These images are investigations and explorations about motherhood. The photographs present women with their children, to show what being a woman as a mother looks like, and to visualize the conflict women have about their individual identity and their identity as a mother. I wanted these women to exist alone in these images in the company of their children. I was seeking to expose the hidden conflict within them: the fight to keep their individuality, their womanhood while simultaneously being a proud mother. While these women are ready to stand by themselves, with their children they are able to show us a simple, intimate world, a world we see every day and do not notice the depth and strength they carry.
